The constituents of the root of Alnus maximowiczii CALLIER (Betulaceae), the host plant of Boschniakia rossica (CHAM, et SCHLTDL.) FEDTSCH. et FLEROV (Orobanchaceae), were investigated and nine compounds, alnincanone (I), taraxeryl acetate (II), taraxerone (III), taraxerol (IV), alnincanol (V), 3-oxo-monogynol A (VI), betulinic acid (VII), betulin (VIII) and monogynol A (IX), were isolated from the less polar fraction. Of these, V and VI have not been found previously in a natural source.
