Stitching Capsule Endoscopic Images Using Phase Correlation : A Preliminary Study(International Forum on Medical Imaging in Asia 2009 (IFMIA 2009))

Image stitching is useful for variety of tasks in medical imaging applications. In this study, a method for stitching wireless capsule endoscopy(WCE) frames is proposed. Assumed Euclidean deformation parameters are estimated by rotating the second image and computing the peak value of phase correlation with the first image. Finally, WCE frames are stitched into a flat panorama using (1) Frame to Frame Linking, and (2) Repetitive Mosaic processing with cosine fall-off blending. Experiments with five sets (each has six sequential but non-adjacent frames) images from one capsule endoscopic video show promising outcome.
