To easily recognize a prostate cancer in MR images, we propose a method for combining T2-weighted MR images with histopathologic findings using B-spline based nonrigid registration. First, density correction is performed to prevent a mistake which a hemorrhage is considered as a tumor on T2-weighted MR images. Then two or four tissue sections of histopathology image are combined to produce a single image. Second, mutual information-based rigid registration is performed to align MR and histopathology images. Third, B-spline based nonrigid registration is used for correcting the deformable motion of the prostate. Finally, intensity intermixing and histopathology findings overlaying are provided to visualize aligned images efficiently. After finishing our registrations, the average distance difference error of contour in initial misalignment was reduced from 1.78mm to 0.9mm.
