It is already known that the R.E.S. has an important connection with metabolism. Aschoff, Landau, MacNee and others called it the "Endothelian Stoffwechsel Apparat" or "Reticuloendotherial Stoffwechsel Apparat", and Kiyono named. it the "Histiozitare Stoffwechsel Apparat". It has been made clear, through the investigations which have since been performed by many authorities, that the cells in this system are indispensable to the equiliblium of the metabolism, and also it is a well-known fact that the internal secretion glands are most important for the adjustment of the metabolism. The results of our investigation into the effect of the rise and fall of the internal secretions upon the functioning of this system, are as follows: We employed Adler and Reimann's Congo-red test as the method of examination. 1) Genital gland. a. Experiment on extirpation of the ovaries. The disturbance of this system reached a maximum, at 4 or 6 weeks after the ovaries of rabbits had been taken away, and afterwards it recovered its function. b. Experiment on hormone injection into the ovary. We found a decrease in the Congo-red index. when a small amount of ovarine "Byla" which is known as total ovarial extract had been continuously injected into rabbits. c. Experiment on extirpation of the testis. When the testes of rabbits were taken away, the functioning of this system generally appeared to be slightly disturbed. d. Experiment on the injection of the testis hormone.We found that the function of this system seemed to be more or less depressed when a small amount of orchitine "Byla", which is known as total testical extract, had been continuously injected. II) The thyroid gland. a. Experiment on thyroid extirpation. The function of this system was apt to be disturbed in the third week after the thyroid gland was removed from rabbits and apparently became normal again 100 days after. b. Experiment on feeding with thyroid powder. It was recognized that the function of this system was stimulated when rabbits were continuously fed with a small amount of thyroid powder (0.2gm). III) The spleen. Experiment on extirpation of the spleen. Although the function of this system is obviously disturbed soon after the extirpation it recovers in a very short time, that is, at the third week after the removal of the spleen. IV) Suprarenal body. a. Experiment on adrenalin treatment. We found that function of the R.E.S. was greatly disturbed both when a large amount of adrenalin (1cc) was injected one time and when a small amount (0.1cc) was injected continuously. b. Experiment on Interin treatment. While we found that the bodily weight of the rabbit has been increased by continuousely giving a small amount of the Interin Powder, the function of the R.E.S. appeared to be very slightly stimlated, but its change was not so conspicuous. V) The Pancrea. Experiment on the Insulin treatment. When the Insulin was injected to the rabbits in the ratio of 0.6 unit to every 1kg. of their bodily weight, the function of this system was found the to be disturbed, but its function increased when injected in the ratio of 0.02 unit of the Insulin. VI) The Pituitary body. a. Experiment on hormon Injection Upon the Posterior lobe: The obstruction of this function has generally been recognized with the injection of Pituitrin. b. Experiment on hormon upon the Anterior labe: In the case of injection with Puberogen a slight excitation was recognized in the function of this system.
