This paper examines the effectiveness of using a movie in listening comprehension for English language classrooms at university level. The t-test is used as a method of statistic analysis to analyze the following two hypotheses : 1) Using movies in the language classroom gives more comprehensible input with visual context to students than using only cassette tapes for listening comprehension when viewing and listening activities are clearly distinguished in using movies. 2) Students with advanced levels of language proficiency would improve their listening comprehension since they are considered to be highly motivated. The results of this study partially support the first hypothesis but not the second.
