This paper describes on the "Physical and Political Atlas of the Republic of Venezuela" ordered to Agustin Codazzi by the government of Venezuela in 1830 and printed in 1840s. This atlas is composed of 8 pages of texts and 19 sheets of maps and figures, the size of which is 56cm x 69cm. The 18 sheets of maps are printed in multi-color. The text pages are composed of the prologue by Codazzi (1/2 page), the index of the atlas (1/2 page), the decrees of mapping and printing (1/2 page), the report of Berthelot about Codazzi's explanation of Venezuela and its atlas at the meeting of Paris Geographical Society (2 and 1/2 pages) and the report of Boussingault about Cadazzi's explanation of Venezuela and its atlas at the meeting of Academy of Science, Institute of France (4 pages). The sheets of maps and figures are as follow: 1. World Historical Map (figs 1 and 2) 2. Physical and Political Map of America 3. Map of the Coasts of Tierra-Firme and the Antillas. 4. Map of Political Venezuela in 1810: Map of Political Venezuela in 1840. (fig.3) 5. Map of Physical Venezuela, divided by hydrographic basins: Map of Physical Venezuela divided by three land cover zones (cultivation, grassland, and woodland), (fig.4) 6. Three maps showing the battles for the independence 1812-1814, 1815-1817 and 1818-1819. 7. Map of Venezuela, Nueva Granada and Quito to serve to the history of the battles 1819-1820. 8. Map of the three departments, Venezuela, Cundinamaruca and Quito to serve to the history of the battles 1821-1823. 9. Map of a part of the republics of Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia to serve to the history of the battles of the Colombian armies in High and Low Peru. 10. Map of Colombia divided by departments. 11. Map of the Caracas province divided by counties. 12. Map which contains the provinces of Barcelona, Cumana and Margarita, divided by counties: Map of Piacoa county of the Guayana province. 13. Map which contains the provinces of Coro, Maracaibo and Merida, divided by counties. 14. Map of the provinces of Carabobo, Barquisimeto, Trujillo and Barinas. 15. Map of the province of Apure, divided by counties: Map of Caicara county of the province of Guayana. 16. Map of the county of Upata of the province of Guayana. 17. Map of the county of Angostura of the province of Guayana. 18. Map of the county of Rio-Negro of the province of Guayana. 19. Figures and data of the altitudes of the mountains and places, the areas and populations of the provinces, and the principal rivers and their lengths. This atlas is a precursory good national atlas composed of general maps, thematic maps and chorographic maps which depict Venezuela wholly with complementary explanatory reports of Berthelot and Boussinagault about the works by Codazzi. Lourdes Rivero, former official of Cartografia Nacional who accomplished central role in making the "Atlas de Venezuela 1979", for giving me the opportunity to observe the atlas of Codazzi derectly and minutely.
