In this paper a study on active sound transmission control of flexible plates by feedback control method is presented. It is specified by modeling the real structure into a reduced order lumped parameter model on the basis of modal analysis, and then using modern control theory to control the vibration of selected modes with high radiation efficiencies. This method distinguishes itself in the fact that the control design can be performed in physical domain where the states involved can be directly measured. In addition, a reduced-order controller can be realized. The modeling procedure and the control design are described; control simulations on the discrete model are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. Experimental work with sound radiation and transmission control in two cases gives a final verification.
