Chemical reagents are graded as a special, first or second classes by the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS). The maximum allowable quantities of various impurities in chemical reagents are prescribed in the Japanese Industrial Standard, respectively. Usually, there are so many kinds of impurities in chemical reagents. It is not so easy to determine a large number of impurities in a limited time by an ordinary analytical procedures. In the previous report, the rapid semiquantitative spectrographic method was progressed for the determination of microquantity of iron in the various chemical reagents. In the present report, lead was checked as an impurity in the reagents. First of all, a relationship between a concentration of lead in the prepared sample and the spectrum obtained was investigated under the same conditions as the previous report. A sensitiveness, however, of the spectrographic determination of lead was not so high under the above conditions. For the determination of microquantity of lead in chemical reagents, the samples were dissolved in water and divided into three portions, respectively. The first portion of the solution was added to the carbon electrodes. The electrodes prepared were excited by the spark method. The addition of the sample solution and the excitation were repeated for three times. In the later case, the sensitiveness of the determination of lead became to ten times higher than the former case's. For the rapid semiquantitative spectrographic determination of lead, the suitable wave lengths of lead were 2614.17A, 2663.16A and 2833.06A ,etc. It was also investigated that the reproducibility and the foreign substances for the described method.
