Small amount of Yb_2O_3 were added in Si_3N_4-Lu_2O_3-SiO_2 ceramics to improve their mechanical properties, and effect of the addition on gas-pressure sintering behavior and mechanical properties were investigated. The addition of small amount of Yb_2O_3 improved high temperature strength as well as fracture toughness, though the addition led to pore formation after gas-pressure sintering.
