Hot Atom Chemistry of ^<76>As Using Zirconium Benzenearsonate as Target

The investigation on the enrichment of ^<76>As by means of hot atom effect of (n, γ) reaction was carried out by using zirconium benzenearsonate as a target. This compound is insoluble in dilute hydrochloric acid and it is assumed that the recoil fragments can be separated from the target by extracting it with dilute hydrochloric acid. By this principle, the enrichment of ^<76>As was succeeded with an enrichment factor of 1.2×10^4. The radiochemical purity of it was 99.88〜99.98% on the basis of β counting and the main impurity was assumed to be ^<97>Zr and the chemical impurity was not detected. Although the oxidation state of it varied with time, of standing after the irradiation 55.5〜70% of total activity was composed of As (III). The above method of enrichment of ^<76>As has the merits of rapidity and simplicity in procedure, especially in the production of radioactive isotopes of short life.
