Two strong absorption lines of MnCl_2・4H_2O and MnBr_2・4H_O in the violet region were investigated between 20°K and 1.2°K, for the purpose of studying the ordered state spectroscopically. The abrupt changes of wave numbers and relative intensities of these lines were observed between just above and just below the Neel temperatures, which could be interpreted qualitatively on the basis of the molecular field theory. The changes of polarization of these lines with the magnetic field were also observed, and were attributed to the changes of the magnetic states. It could be concluded that the preferred axis is the c axis and that the spin flopping takes place for both salts.
