It is the aim of the present paper to determine the thermodynamic properties of sulphur dissolved in molten lead. For the purpose of this determination, the reduction equilibrium of sulphur in liquid lead by hydrogen gas was studied experimentally over the temperature range from 824° to 968℃. It was found that the molten lead containing a small quantity of sulphur could be regarded as an ideal solution in the range of conditions investigated. Equations, experimentally derived, relating to the reduction equilibrium are as follows : numerical formula. Combining the equations with the known ones with respect to the equilibrium constant of the formation reaction of hydrogen sulphide gas, the approximate equations expressed as a function of temperature for the dissociation pressure of sulphur dissolved in molten lead may be represented by the following equations in the temperature range described above : numerical formula.
