The investigations on the equilibrium in the reduction of metallic sulphides by hydrogen gas, which are important bases for the thermodynamic treatment of chemical reactions in non-ferrous smelting, were undertaken. To eliminate any errors occasioned by thermal diffusion, the flow method was employed and the reaction vessel was improved. Hydrogen gas used was generated by electrolysis of a caustic soda aqueous solution, and the absorbent containing cadmium- and zinc-acetate was employed to analyse for hydrogen sulphide in gaseous phase. The method of measurement and the methods of calculating the dissociation pressures of metallic sulphides by combining the results obtained with the known ones of hydrogen sulphide were reported in this paper.
