The equilibrium in the reduction of solid silver sulphide by hydrogen gas was studied by the flow method over the temperature range 487〜775℃. The equilibrium constant and the standard free energy change in the reaction were established as a function of temperature as follows : Ag_2S(β)+H_2=2Ag+H_2S ; log Kp=73.9/T-0.763, 〓F°=-338 +3.490T. By combining the equations with those of formation of hydrogen sulphide gas, the following equations with regard to the dissociation of solid silver sulphide were obtained : 2Ag_2S(β)=4Ag+S_2 ; log P_<S_2>=-9, 238/T+3.574, 〓F°= 42, 260-16.347T. And also using these results and other known thermodynamical data, the heat change and the standard free energy change of formation of solid silver sulphide from the elements were calculated. 2Ag+S(r)=Ag_2S(a) ; 〓H298.1=-9, 033, 〓F°298.1=-10, 515.
