Spectroscopic Temperature Measurement of Breaking Arcs near the Cathode and Anode Surfaces of Copper Contacts (国際セッション IS-EMD2005) -- (Arc Discharges & Related Phenomena)

The breaking arc is generated between Cu electrical contact pairs in a D.C.42V/10.5A circuit, and, the arc voltage, the arc current and the arc spectral intensity near the fixed contact are measured. The arc temperature is calculated from the spectral intensity by using the Boltzmann plot. The results are as follows. In the breaking arc between Cu electrical contact pairs, (1) time change in the spectral intensity and time change in the arc temperature have similar properties. (2) There are no relations between the spectral intensity and the arc voltage. (3) As for the spectral intensity near the cathode and anode surfaces, the spectrum intensity near the anode surface is strong. (4) As for the arc temperature, the arc temperature near the anode surface is higher than that near the cathode surface, and the temperature change near the anode surface is more extreme. (5) While the arc temperature near the cathode surface when the arc discharge disappears is constant, that near the anode surface has width.
