Interface-wave Instability in a Parallel Arrangement of Two Semiconductor Sheets with Transverse Magnetic Field

The property of carrier waves which propagate along a surface of a semiconductor sheet is analyzed in the case with transverse magnetic field. The results show that two eigen-modes of the TM-wave exist in the same manner as in the case without magnetic field. By applying the analysis to the interface of two sheets of semi-conductors arranged in parallel with each other, expression of instability of the coupled surface carrier wave (interface wave) is obtained, which includes also the effect of diffusion. Numerical estimation is made to find the condition of operation at high frequency.
