It is shown that the existence of closed magnetic or flux surfaces is impossible in a simple magnetic well where the field strength increases outwards in a monotone. If r is taken as a position vector from a certain fixed point in space to a moving point on a magnetic field line, the field strength increases in the direction opposite to r at the point where the magnitude of r is maximum.
