A perturbed magnetic field distribution near a gap, which is formed by electrically conducting sectionalized shells used in a Tokamak-type plasma apparatus, is investigated analytically by making use of a Schwarz-Christoffel's transformation. The relative field distribution is dependent only on the ratio of the width of the gap to the thickness of the shell. If the presence of the gap is regarded as an edge effect and the range concerned is limited substantially within a certain distance from the edge of the shell, then it is possible to make an estimate on the absolute value of the perturbed field. The toroidal effect has been considered as a perturbation to a cylindrical solution by introducing an effective eccentric distance of a plasma current with respect to the shell. A numerical calculation of the perturbed magnetic field has been carried out for the dimensions of a Tokamak-type plasma apparatus (JFT-2) under construction.
