Emission and excitation spectra of steady-state fluorescence from membranes and isolated pigment-protein complexes of an aerobic photosynthetic bacterium, Erythrobacter sp. strain OCh 114 indicated high efficiency of energy transfer from Bchl 806 to Bchl 870 and from carotenoids to bacteriochlorophyll. Thus, this bacterium has a highly efficient light-harvesting system typical of photosynthetic bacteria.
