Transient thermal stresses of weld heat-affected zone are evaluated by a constrained system of weld joint model. Round bar specimen set into a rigid frame device was given thermal cycles by induction heating, and the transient thermal stresses were recorded. Four kinds of steel of different mechanical and metallurgical properties are used. The types of applied thermal cycle are sigle thermal cycle, multi-thermal cycles of fixed peak temperature type, increasing and decreasing peak temperature type. Residual stresses are obtained as a function of the peak temperature. History of plastic strain by thermal cycles are also estimated.
