The present study analyzes active component of (a) contraction factor (CF) produced by aboral intestine for contraction of the sea urchin gonadal smooth muscles. The CF-I was previously reported to be present within the heamal vessel and to be a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 3,800. The present investigation has documented that the active component of CF-I is a carbohydrate portion which is able to induce the contraction.
