In this paper the writer describes two new species of gregarines found in the intestines of aquatic larvae of insects: Pileocephalus hydropsychus n. sp. from Hydropsyche larva and Actinocephalus kintaikyoensis n. sp. from larva of a stone fly. Their diagnoses are as follows. 1. Pileocephalus hydropsychus n. sp. (Fig. 1 a-f). Cephalonts elongate ovoidal to cylindrical. Maximum length 350μ, width 70μ. Ratio LP: TL=1: 3.8-2.9. WP: WD=1:1.1-0.9. Protomerite ovoidal, widest at just above the base or in the middle, rounded in front. Constriction at septum. Deutomerite elongate cylindrical, widest at a short distance posterior to septum, tapering to a sharply pointed posterior end. Epimerite spherical in shape, with a pointed anterior end. Young trophozoite provided with a short neck. As cephalont grows older, the epimerite is transformed into a lanceolate head with a long cylindrical neck. The lance is longer than the neck. The whole length of epimerite is the same as that of protomerite. Nucleus spherical, 20μ in diameter, with many Karyosomes. Endocyte dense, brown in deutometite, lighter in protomerite. Sporonts solitary, elongate ovoidal, contracted longitudinally and a little broader than cephaionts. Protomerite ellipsoidal, broadly rounded at the top. Deutomerite ovoidal, being contracted and as long as protomerite. Cysts spherical, 170μ in average diameter. Dehiscence by simple rupture. Spores obese, biconical 7×4μ. Host: Hydropsyche sp. larva. Habitat: Intestine. Localities: Hikarisi, Naruto-mura and Yamato-mura, Yamaguti Prefecture. 2. Actinocephalus kintaikyoensis n. sp. (Fig. 2 a-f). Cephalonts elongate cylindrical. Maximum length 280μ, maximum width 92μ. Length generally 200-150μ, width 70-50μ. Ratio LP: TL=1: 3.5-3.0, WP: WD 1: 1.2-0.9. Protomerite elongate conical, slightly longer than wide, widest at the base, tapering off to sharply pointed anterior extremity. Epimerite, 20×8μ, with a short neck, consisting of a spherical disc and 8-9 horizontally directed digitiform processes around the disc. Deep constriction at septum. Deutomerite elongate cylindrical, widest at a short destance behind septum, tapering posteriorly and ending abruptly to a sharply pointed posterior end. Nucleus spherical, 20-16μ in diameter, situated just below the septum, with 2 to several karyosomes. Endocyte dense, brownish in deutomerite, lighter in protomerite. Sporonts solitary, rather obese. They become wider and shorter than cephalonts. Protomerite hamispherical, wider than long, ending in a small anterior cone. Deutomerite ovoidal, increasing especially its width. Cysts spherical, 130-160μ in diameter, dehiscence by simple rupture. Spores cylindro-biconical, 10×2μ. This species was found in the intestine of the larva of a species of the family Perlidae, which was captured in the stream near the Kintai bridge at Iwakuni, Yamaguti Prefecture in March, 1948. Localities: Iwakunisi, Naruto-mura and Yamato-mura, Yamaguti Prefecture.
