If the adults of Oryzias latipes were subjected to a single dose of 100kr of Co^<60> γ-rays, all the irradiated fishes died immediately after the exposure. But they survied for a period of about 10 days after irradiation with 50kr. Next, 14 groups composed of 23-27 individuals each were subjected to 100kr of γ-rays, delivered in two equal doses of 50 kr separated by various time intervals, 2 and 10 minutes and 1, 5, 24 and 72 hours respectvely. In experiments keeping the fish at 23℃ during the interval, all groups, except the 72 hour interval group, died just after the second irradiation. However, when the interval was prolonged to 72 hours at 23℃, the survival curve similar to the case of a single dose of 50kr was obtained. If kept at lower temperature (11℃) during the interval of 72 hours, all the individuals died just after the irradiation. From these data, the rate of the recovery process from injury after a massive dose of irradiation is likely to depend on temperature.
