The effects of X-irradiation on the transplantability of the anal fin of the goldfish were studied. The anal fin was transplanted into muscle near the dorsal fin 24 hours after X-irradiation of 1, @000r. The following five different transplantations of the fin were carried out : Group 1. Autotransplantation of the fin within one non-irradiated individual, Group 2. Homotransplantation of the fin of a non-irradiated donor into an irradiated host, Group 3. Homotransplantation of the fin of an irradiated fish into an irradiated host, Group 4. Homotransplantation of the fin of an irradiated fish into a non-irradiated host, and Group 5. Homotransplantation of the fin between a non-irradiated donor and host. Results are given in Figure 1. All of the homotransplants between non-irradiated fish were rejected within 40 days (Group 5). But, most of the autotransplantations survived for same period (Group 1). The rate of rejections of the transplants decreased following X-irradiation of the hosts (Group 2-4). From thses results, it seems probable that the formation of antibodies in the host is reduced by X-irradiation in goldfish as it is in mammals.
