A Novel Technique for Improving Compressed Image by Mapping a Reference Image

A novel image improving technique is presented. A high quality image of the subject is utilized as a reference image. Simple motion estimation is used to cope with the movement between the reference image and the compressed one. Lost data due to compression is retrieved first in frequency domain then in spatial one. The difference between the reference data and the degraded one is used to determine how much the change in the reference image will be. In this paper, image degraded from JPEG compression is tested. This technique can be applied to other compression techniques as well.
