In case of large-scale information gathering with multiple image sensors, how to decrease huge amount of data and avoid network congestion is considered one of the most important issues. To reduce data volume at image acquisition level, we take a new approach of utilizing the random-accessing functionality of spatially-variant sampling (SVS) smart image sensors. The pixel-level handling of data management, which can replace the computationally-intensive encoding/decoding process of conventional system, is achieved by assigning different spatial/temporal resolutions to the region of interest and background region. The basic framework is also introduced to search and detect the candidates of events from the database of the transmitted images by comparing their histograms.
