The Baser-induced fluorescence spectra of Eu" in Ca(PC.). glass are analyzed indetail. It is shown that the site-to-site variation of the energies of several levels ofEu" is expressed using the second-order crystal-field parameters B.. and l #... l.From the analysis of the spectral shape of the laser-induced fluorescence lines, thedistributions of the above two parameters are determined. The fluorescence linewidthhas been found to be very different for the lines to excite. This is explained by thedifference in the dependence of the energies of the lex'els concerned on the crystal-fieldstrength. The inhomogeneously broadened lineshape of the 'D., -'F, fluorescence ex-cited by the broad-band ultraviolet light is shown to be reproduced by assuming Gaus-sian distributions of the crystal-field parameters.crystal-field analysis, europium, glass, fluorescence line-narrowing
