We present the results of analytical sttndies and conaputer simulations of electron-ion plasnuaclotnd collisions trsing 2D3V particle-in-cell atnd 2D two-fluid collisionless relativistic codes. Weaddress the problern concerning the generation of a quasistatic magnetic field. Using relativistictwo-fluid equations for the two counterstreaming electron populations, we show with the help oflinear theory that the generation of' a taaagnetic field can be associated with the "electromagneticcounterstreatning instability". Two-diznensional (2D) particle-in-cell provide good agreementwith the restrlts of linear theory. We show that the qttasistatic rnagnetic field ttndergoes acollisionless change of strtrcttrre, leading to large-scale, long-lived strtrctures. These processesrnay be inaportant for the understanding of' rnagnetic field generation in laser jclasmas and inspace plasrnas in the regions where two stellar winds collide.
