Traffic jams propagating in the congested traffic flow are investigated by the conaputer sim-ulation and the analytical method. We study the propagation properties of traffic jams in thedynarnical traffic rnodel which is 21 sirnplified version of the car following models. It is shown thatthe traffic jaraas can propagate forward with increasing nainimal velocity by comptrter simulation. The simplified model allows LIS to give the analytical result f'or the propagation velocity of trafficjams. The condition at which the propagation direction of traffic .jams changes is analyticallyfound.
