Study of the ^7Be (p,γ)^8B Reaction with the Coulomb Dissociation Method

• The Coulomb-dissociation cross section for the process 'B -+ "Be f p in the field of "'Pb wasmeasured at E('B) : 46.5 A }IeV. The "Be(p,'y)'B cross section relevant to the high-energy 'Bsolar-netrtrino production was extracted at E0.-,?. :: 0.6 - 1.7 lVIeV. Two theoretical models onthe structtrre of B were used to evaltrate possible corrections due to Ml and E2 adznixtures tothe dorrtinant El cross sections, Their overall effect is shown to be small regardless of the claoiceof the models. The present result is consistent with the results of the direct measurements ofFiIIppone et at. and Vaughn et at. within errors. This result suggests further studies with theCoulomb-dissociation method to extract astroph3'sical 837 factor at " 20 keV relevant to thehigh-energy solar-neutrino flux.
