Theory of the Ferroelectric Phase Transition in Cs (H_<1-x>D_x)_2PO_4

To understand the role of hydrogens in the ferroelectricity of hydrogen-bondedcrystals, the effect of deuteration in the mixed crystal Cs(H. .D.).P0. is studied onthe basis of the coupled proton-dipole model presented by the present authors (J.Phys. Soc. Jpn. 57 (1988) 4391) for pure CsH.P0. and CsD.P0.. The model is essen-tially reduced to a one-dimensional Ising system with random bonds, and the staticdielectric constant is analytically obtained in the paraelectric phase. Variation of theferroelectric phase transition temperature with deuteration, T.(x), is calculated. Theresult predicts that the T.(x) curve of Cs(H. .D.).P0., which has not yet been defer-mined by experiments, should have a large bowing because of the quasi-one-dimensionality of the system.
