A Dynamical Extension of the Desity Functional Theory

A dynamical version of the density functional theory (DFT) for classical(equilibrium) statistical mechanics is presented. A nonlinear Langevin equation withmultiplicative noise is derived for a density field. The corresponding Fokker-Planckequation is shown to have the appropriate stationary distribution expressed in termsof the free energy functional.
