It is pointed out that a photon beam, if its intensity exceeds a certain threshold value, can cause spin wave instability in rutile-type antiferromagnets through one photon-two magnon process. Magnons on the boundary of the Brillouiz zone are nonthermally excited. Absorption due to two magnon excitation abruptly increases at the threshold. An order estimation of the threshold value is given.
