Crystal Structure of Poly(3-alkylthiophene) and Its Doping Effect

Crystal structure<cf poly(3-alkylthiophene) having various length of side chainranging from 4 to 18 has been studied by X-ray difl'raction measurement. The latticeparameters of rlaoxnbic structure of poly(3-alkyltlaiophene) were varied with alkylchain length. Distanc:e between main chains along t]?e side alkyl chains increases withincreasing alkyl cltain length, while tlaat between the neighboring m-conjugationplanes on the main chains increases sliglttly with increasing alkyl chain length longerthan dodecyl group. The lattice parameter was also varied upon electrochemical dop-ing, indicating incorporation of dopant anion into the crystal region of poly(3-alkylthiophene).poly(3-alkylthioplaene), X-ray diffraction, crystal structure, dopingl
