We studied the low temperature specific heat C of nonsuperconducting oxides(La.-.Sr.).NiO.., in a wide range of x up to 0.65, along with the lattice parameters atroom temperature, electrical resistivity p and magnetic susceptibility 7. We observedthe qualitative change in both p and 7, at x= 0.20 - 0.25 corresponding to that in c/ a,which is ascribed to the transition from the high-spin to low-spin state of Ni tons. Theanomalous hump in C below IOK was observed. It disappears gradually abovex -0.20 and coincides with the transition of the spin states.
