Structure Factor of the Incommensurate Phases of Physisorbed Atoms on an Anisotropic Rectangular Lattice

In our previous paper it was shown that the atoms adsorbed on an anisotropic rec-tangular substrate lattice may exhibit a unique incommensurate phase of new kind.Physical interpretation of this new phase, called the IC. phase, is given in this paper.This phase is found to be the first example of "antiferromagnetic" short range ordercaused solely by entropy requirements. Such order can be seen only on an imaginarylattice but can not be detected on the real lattice. We show, however, that the newphase exhibits a distinct feature in the X ray and neutron scatterings. To show this wecalculate the structure factor of the incommensurate phases on the basis of the Fer-mion approach developed in our previous papers.
