The Kubo formula for the dissipative part of the electric conductivity of pure convection current is proved rigorously without any ambiguity. To prevent the contamination of diffusion currents, we consider here cyclic systems. A sum rule is obtained for the frequency dependent conductivity σ (w) under a uniform electric field. This sum rule does not coincide with the ordinary f-sum rule for the q-dependent conductivity σ (q, w) under a spatially oscillating electric field with wave-number q≠0. There is a discontinuity at q≡0 in cyclic systems. Implications of this discontinuity are discussed. The discrepancy indicates that σ (w) as given by the Kubo formula is in fact very singular at w≡0.
