Digital Image Processing Study on Dynamics of Dissipative Structure in Nematic Liquid Crystal

A d>'namics of convective now r>attern ot>servea in the electrohydrodynamicinstability of nematic liquid crystal is investigated. Fluctuation of the patternunder ac-field is analysed by new dynamic image processing teclmique. Theteclmique is based on a time-correlation analysis of a brightness change of eachpicture element. Spatial difference or local nature of the pattern dynamics isvisualized by the image processing technique. Voltage dependence of the cor-relation function of the pattern fluctuation is discussed from the point of viewof the successive transitions in far from equilibrium system.
