Local autd global stabilities of aia electron in defornaable lattice with dime?x-sionality (5 aaad force range iaxdex 2 are studied within the adiabatic approximation.Depetaditag on the sign of the stability imadex: o=l>-22 -2, one fiuads tlae freestate to be locally stable (<;>0) with discoratixxuous trauasitioax to globally stableself-trapped state beyotad a critical value of coupling consta?at g, to be marginal((7=0) with local (as well as global) stability being govetmed by g, or to be locallyinstabilized (<:r<0) towards the optimuzaa lattice clistortioua wlaich grows COII-ti?auously from zero with increasing g. A phase diagram is presevated.for anelectron interactiuag simultaneously with two types of phonona fields with<a$0.The potential barrier for self-trappinag of a Wannier exciton is studied withparticular attention to the effect of its internal motiovn, and is conapared withthe observation.
