The system of two electrons coupling with phonon fields is studied with theuse of the path integral method. In particular, the condition of the formationof a bipolaron and its physical properties are investigated in detail. The deforma-tion potential interaction with acoustic phonons (the coupling constant .5..)and the Frahlich interaction with optical phonons (.5..) act to help the bipolaronformation against the direct Coulomb repulsion which prevents it. Usually, .5..plays a dominant role. With 8./8.<<1 and the optical phonon energy not solarge compared with the electron band width, however, the bipolaron can beformed at large values of .5.. even when .s'..:o. The bipolaron always has anenormous effective mass; thus it is practically localized. The mean distancebetween two electrons in the bipolaron is usually of the order of the interatomicdistance.
