Subband Structure and Inter-Subband Absorption in an Accumulation Layer in Strong Magnetic Fields

The electronic structure of subbands and the inter-subbar?d optical absorptionsrectrum are calculated in an ?t-channel accumulation layer on the Si (100) surfacein strong magnetic fields applied parallel to the su.nrface. The exchange and corre-Nation effect is taken into account in an approximation scheme based on the densityfunctional formulation. The peak energy of the absorption is shifted to thehigh energy side almost linearly with the magnetic field. The amount of theshift increases with the electron concentration mainly due to the depolarizationfield effect. The results agree with experimental results both qualitatively andquantitatively.
