The ionization relaxation processes behind shock waves in pure krypton andkrypton-argon mixtures have been investigated using a Mach-Zehnder interferometertechnuque. The incident shock velocity was fixed in the neighborhood ofUs=2800m/sec, and the initial pressure was fixed at 0.95 Torr. The experimentalresults were compared with theoretical values based on the two-step collisionalionization model taking into account of the wall boundary-layer effect. The slopeconstants of excitation cross section against relative kinetic energy between kryptonatom-atom collisions, krypton atom-electron collisions, and krypton-argon atomatom collisions were determined to be 4.2xl0 "cm'/eV, 1.2x10 "cm'/eV, and4.2 x 10 " cm'/eV, respectively.
