X-Ray and Mossbauer Studies of the Oxygen-Deficient SrFe_xMo_<1-x>O_<3-y>

Oxygen-deficient perovskite system SrFe_xMo_<1-x>O_<3-y> (2/3≦x≦1) was prepared, and the influence of heat-treatment on structural and magnetic properties and also on the valence state of cations were investigated. The lattice size of the system is reduced by air-oxidation of the sample which was prepared in an inert atmosphere of nitrogen gas, and the Neel temperature was lowered remarkably (e.g. from 660 K to about 80 K for StFe_<0.9>Mo_<0.1>O_<3-y>) by heat-treatment without changing its crystal symmetry. These results are consistently explained by assigning the valence states of the sample before and after the oxidization as SrFe_x^<3+>Mo^<5+,6+>_<1-x>O_<3-y> and SrFe_x^<3+,4+>Mo^<6+>_<1-x>O_<3-y> respectively.
