Electron Spin Resonance Study of Zinc-Doped Copper Acetate Monohydrate

The ESR of copper-zinc units in zinc-doped copper acetate monohydrate has been studied in the temperature range between 20 K and 120 K. Spin Hamiltonian parameters, g^^∼, A^^∼, and Q^^∼, were determined. The line-shape of copper-zinc units below 50 K is nearlty Gaussian accompanied by weak Lorentzian-like tails. Above 60 K it changes to be nearly Lorentzian and begins to broaden with increasing temperature. These phenomena can be well explained by a calculations based on Van Vleck's moment method where the inter-molecular dipole interactions and the exchange interaction of 410 K (285 cm^-1) between Cu ions in a unit are taken into account.
