ESR Study of the Exchange Interaction in Wurster's Blue Perchlorate

The temperature dependent ESR linewidth of the single crystal of WBP hasbeen measured between 52.5 and 300 K in the X-band. The second ?monaeuat iscalculated using the crystal structure data and taking into consideratic>n the spindelocalization over the TMPD" radical. Below the transition temperatu?re, 190 K,the calculation based on the model of interacting four radicals in two djmers givesthe second naoment Varying with tem.perature nearly as a linear func1.ion of thepopulation of dimers in triplet state. The angular dependeuace of the experimentalhalfwidth agrees with the calculated one at 300 and 130 K. The effectiv?: exchangefrequency which narrows the line is derived using Anderson's narrowiuag formulaunder the assumption of 3-dimensional and isotropic exchange interaction. Themechanism for the effective exchange frequency us duscussed.
