A method to operate a plasma focus device for a laboratory use of a multispeciesTon beam source is described. A time-resolved obs;ervation of' the beam is carried outby developing a Thomson pac=abola ion analyzer with a detecting system consisting ofan MCP (microchannel plate) with multianodes. An ton beam, in which energy ofeach component distributes I'rom 80 to 350 keV and the pulse duration of the corn-ponents are - 20 ns in FWHM is obtauned, when a mixture of H. and D. gas areadopted. Using the multispecies ion beam and the Thomson parabola analyzer, theelectron multiplication factor of the MCP is simultaneovtsly obtained for eachspecies.
