The ntixing length Ftypothesis is investigated for the purpose of making theunderlvinz idea of the h>r>othesis clear in the case of the dissinative trarr>ed toninstability. Three different approaches are employed; l) analogy to the ordinaryturbulence in hvdrod>rnamics, 2) a nonlinear turbulent collision theory, and 3) acuuasilinear theorv of the densit>' flatteninu. If the isotroric turbulence is assumed, the mixin: lenzth hvr>othesis can be derived bv the first two ar>r>roaches. Theformula D z 7/kf, which is usually obtained from the mixing length hypothesis, canbe derived by the third approach.
