Influence of a two-stream instability induced by a uniform ion beam propagating ina background plasma on the electron return current is investigated theoretically. Thetwo-stream instability is taken into account with use of quasilinear equation for theplasma electron. Although the quasilinear wave-particle interaction has an effect of ac-celerating electrons, the electron current does not exceed the beam current. This is aresult of rapid response of the electrons trying to induce an electric field that cancelsthe effect of quasilinear acceleration of the electrons. Analysis is valid in the initialstage of the instability.ttwo-stream instability, uniform Ton beam, return current, quasilinear wave parti- lI cle interaction1
