Electric and Magnetic Study of V_xCr_<3-x>S_4 Compounds

Polycystalline samples of V,Cr.=.S. (0!,v!3) with defect nickel-arsenidestructure were prepared. Almost random distribution of metal atoms was ob-tained by a proper treatment of the sample. Electrical resistivity was measuredbetween 4.2 K and 295 K. It is metallic for 0.0<,r$0.4 and 2.75<,c.<3.0, andis semiconductive for 0.6$,c.<2.5. Susceptibility was measured between 4.2 Kand 800 K. Small anomalies in resistivity and susceptibility corresponding toN<Sel temperature were found. In mixed compounds, susceptibility deviatesbelow the room temr>erature from the hinh temr>erature limit of x=xo A- C/(7' - 0).This behavior can be interpreted qualitatively that a small moment appears on aV atom and that this moment weakly interacts with Cr moments.
