Electronic Phase Separation in La_<1.2>Sr_<1.8>Mn_2O_7 Observed by ^<55>Mn Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

A single crystal of perovskite bilayer manganite La_<1.2>Sr_<1.8>Mn_2O_7 has been studied by the ^<55>Mn NMR technique. The observed spectra at 4.2 K in zero external magnetic field are broad and spread in the frequency range 310-480 MHz. The shape of the spectrum depends strongly on the rf radiation field for exciting and refocusing a spin-echo signal. In external magnetic fields up to 1.75 T, signals arising from both metallic and insulating phases are observed, which is an evidence of the electronic phase separation.
